The first freight train from Russia to Saudi Arabia crossed Turkmenistan
Shahriar Shahriari, director general of the customs department of Golestan province, told reporters on Saturday that the first freight train from Russia crossed the Iranian border through the Inche-Burun border crossing on the border with Turkmenistan and headed to Bandar Abbas in the south on its way to Saudi Arabia, Mehr news agency reported.
A train of 42 containers departed from the Chelyabinsk-Gruzovoy station of the South Ural Railway and proceeded along the North-South international transport corridor through the territories of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.The train transports power equipment and non-ferrous metals.
The cost of transiting goods along this corridor has almost halved as a result of improved customs tariffs, the Iranian official said.
Prior to this, the first container train was sent from the Chelyabinsk-Gruzovoi station along the ITC "North-South" to India.
Earlier, head of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler said that the issue of launching high-speed freight trains through Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan and Iran with the consolidation of cargo in Chelyabinsk is being addressed.
It is expected that this route will also transport Indian, Chinese and East Asian products to Europe.
