The Association of Composers of the Caspian countries will popularize the music of the peoples of the region

The Association of Composers of the Caspian countries, which will constantly interact with the composer communities of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan, decided to create in 2024. This decision was made by the participants of the First International Forum of Composers of the Caspian Sea, taking place these days in Astrakhan as part of the festival of classical art "Caspian Seasons - 2023". Mikhail Golikov, artistic director and conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Caspian States, told TASS about this in an interview.
"The experience of conducting classical art festivals in Astrakhan has shown that when searching for program works for the orchestra of the Caspian states, we actually know nothing about the composition schools of the Caspian countries. At the same time, it became clear that we simply need to perform new and modern music in addition to classical music, to make these melodies become popular with today's audience. Now we have signed a declaration on cooperation and interaction with the forum participants - this is the preparation of a legal form for the creation of the Association of Composers of the Caspian countries. This will allow us to work more efficiently on a permanent basis, interact with composer communities on the ground," Golikov said.
The musician clarified that the details of the creation of an interstate organization are currently being discussed. In addition, the delegates of the composers' forum initiated a competition among composers from the Caspian countries with the prospect of making it an annual one. The jury will include cultural figures from all participating countries, musicologists, performers and professional critics.
"The name of the winner of the composer's competition will be announced at the gala concert of the next international festival "Caspian Seasons" in 2024, where the author's work will be performed by the orchestra of the Caspian countries. A concert will be organized for the winners of the competition at the Astrakhan Philharmonic. I am sure that the Composers' Forum and the subsequent creation of the Association of Composers of the Caspian countries will truly unite our composer communities by holding joint concerts, forums and creative meetings at various venues," Golikov added.
Recall that the International Festival of Classical Art "Caspian Seasons - 2023" started in Astrakhan on August 22. The Days of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will be held at the Astrakhan Philharmonic from August 25 to 28. The Symphony Orchestra of the Caspian States, consisting of about 70 musicians from the Caspian countries, will become an active participant in most of the events of the Caspian Seasons.
