Kakha Imnadze gave a briefing at the Turkmen Permanent Mission to the UN
New Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Kakha Imnadze gave a briefing at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN in New York.
The event was held with the participation of the permanent representatives of the Central Asian states after the report to the UN Security Council on the activities of the Center (headquartered in Ashgabat).
Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Kakha Imnadze informed that the members of the Security Council positively assessed the work of the Regional Center and supported further efforts to strengthen its mandate, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Imnadze highlighted the key aspects that were given special attention during the semi-annual report to the UN Security Council. Among them are:
— the development of multilateral formats of interaction between Central Asian countries and other regions and the significance of the CA-European Union, CA- PRC, CA-Gulf Cooperation Council summits held in 2023;
— the results of the summit of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which took place on August 4 in Ashgabat, and the effectiveness of this format for cooperation in the field of energy security, transport connectivity and rational water use;
— preparation for the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States scheduled for September 14-15 in Tajikistan, as well as for the summit of the heads of the IFAS founding states timed to it;
— support for the further development of the Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation in Central Asia;
— development of established mechanisms of interaction between the countries of the region and Afghanistan with the support of the UNRCCA;
— the great importance of the TAPI and CASA-1000 transregional energy projects for strengthening economic and political stability in the region;
— effective implementation of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia;
— the importance of the Center's interaction with regional organizations;
— the need to develop multilateral platforms established in the region with the assistance of the Regional Center, especially the Dialogue of Women from Central Asian countries, the Academy of Preventive Diplomacy for Youth, etc.
During the meeting, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Aksoltan Atayeva, expressing the support of the Turkmen side for the activities of the Regional Center, noted the need to further increase its potential and intensity of activities in accordance with the priority areas outlined in the resolutions of the UN General Assembly on the role of the Center, adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan.
Broad opportunities were noted for using the potential of Turkmenistan as a neutral state and the location of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy to establish and develop a multilateral dialogue with the Afghan authorities.
It was also reported about plans to establish a Youth Dialogue of Central Asian Countries with the support of the Center and hold its first meeting in the fourth quarter of 2023 in Turkmenistan.
