Closing ceremony of World Summer Universiade held in China


The closing ceremony of the 31st World Summer Games of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) took place in an open-air park in Chengdu, Sichuan province, shine.cn reported.
As planned by the producers of the ceremony, the sports delegations dispersed on the stage like branches of a huge pigeon tree. This species grows in China, its flower resembles a flying dove.
The elements symbolized stability and hope for peace. At the end of the ceremony, the Chinese athletes handed over the FISU flag to the representative of the Rhine- Ruhr region in Germany, which will host the 2025 Summer Games.
The Universiade was held from July 28 to August 8. It was attended by 6.5 thousand athletes from 113 countries. 269 sets of medals were played in 18 sports, 22 FISU records were broken, of which 14 were set by Chinese athletes.

Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei became the most productive athlete: she won nine gold medals in all types of swimming. The Chinese delegation led the Universiade medal standings both in terms of the number of gold medals and the total number of medals. 411 Chinese athletes won 178 medals, 103 of them gold.
Chengdu became the third Chinese city on the mainland to host the Summer Universiade. Games scheduled for 2021 have been postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It should be noted that the student team of Turkmenistan also took part in the World Summer Universiade.
The sports student team of Turkmenistan performed in four sports: athletics (3 athletes), wushu (4 athletes), swimming (3 athletes), judo (6 athletes).
In addition, the Turkmen athlete Ayguzel Gurbangeldiyeva was awarded the bronze medal of the Universiade in wushu competitions.
