The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination opened its 110th session in Geneva on 7 August, during which it will consider the anti- discrimination efforts of Italy, Croatia, Uruguay, Namibia, Senegal and Turkmenistan.

The Committee heard from the representative of the UN Secretary-General, Abdul Tioye, Acting Head of the Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Tioye drew attention to two main issues: the situation of migrants and climate change, which is a global problem, but does not affect everyone equally. People whose way of life is inextricably linked to the environment, mainly indigenous peoples, have been most affected by climate change.

Turkmenistan will present its report at the meeting of the Committee on August 21-22, which will also provide new statistical data on the ethnic composition of the country's population according to the data of the population and housing census in 2022.

Turkmenistan, which has been pursuing an active policy aimed at creating and ensuring equal human and civil rights and freedoms since the first years of independence, ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination on September 23, 1994.
