Negotiations were held in Tashkent between representatives of the National Olympic Committee and the President of the Ice Hockey Federation of Uzbekistan with Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Aivaz Omarkanov.

The first international training camp for young Asian hockey players ended in the capital of Uzbekistan the day before.

Omarkanov noted that the training courses were organized at a high level. More than 100 athletes from over 30 Asian countries participated in the weekly training camp. They were trained by specialists brought in by the International Ice Hockey Federation.

Aivaz Omarkanov proposed, on behalf of the International Ice Hockey Federation, to hold the next Asian and Oceania Under-18 Championship (U-18) in Uzbekistan in 2024.

“Tashkent has enough opportunities to hold Asian championships of different ages, and such competitions will largely contribute to the popularization of winter sports, in particular hockey, in the country,” nova24.uz quotes the IIHF Vice President.

The head of the Ice Hockey Federation of Uzbekistan supported the proposal and expressed interest in hosting the tournament in Uzbekistan, noting that this event would give a good impetus to the further development of hockey not only in the country, but throughout Central Asia.

Uzbekistan will also host group matches of the Asian Championship between women's teams from 6 to 12 November. Thailand will be the second host country.

Uzbekistan will also host the 2024 Futsal World Cup for the first time in history.
