A unique operation for the successful implantation of an artificial ventricle into the heart of a four-year-old child was performed at the Minsk Center for Pediatric Surgery. Such an operation with filigree work is considered one of the rarest and most complex in the world. It lasted several hours.

The team of doctors was headed by pediatric cardiac surgeon Konstantin Drozdovsky, assisted by a well-known professor from Turkey Umit Kervan, MIR 24 reports.

The baby has had heart problems since birth, and she is in line for a transplant. However, the child's weight is 13 kg, which is insufficient for such an operation. Must be at least 35. When the girl's condition worsened, the doctors decided to implant an artificial pump.

"The case is the first in the world. This is not just implantation of an artificial ventricle, it is also concomitant surgery inside the heart. We made a correction of the mitral valve so that the pump we implanted worked well," said Professor Umit Kervan, head of the Department of Artificial Ventricles and Heart transplantation at the Ankara Heart Center.

"At the moment, of course, the child is on the road to recovery. So far, everything is going according to plan, and we hope that this girl will walk with a "backpack" and enjoy life," said Konstantin Drozdovsky, chief freelance pediatric cardiac surgeon of the RSPC of Children's Cardiac Surgery in Minsk.

The little patient will be discharged in six months.
