Turkmen Maya Amangeldyeva nominated for Pride of Britain Award

Maya Amangeldyeva, a resident of Herne Bay who moved to England from Turkmenistan 15 years ago, was included in the list of exceptional people and was nominated for the Pride of Britain award, which is awarded to residents of the United Kingdom for extraordinary deeds. The annual awards ceremony has been held in the UK since 1999, the Mirror writes.
The Turkmen woman Maya is a fairly well-known person in England today. Her altruism and one-of-a-kind author's project - the opening of a free store in the center of an English city in Kent, attracted the attention of the entire British Kingdom. ORIENT told about this story to its readers in February of this year, when Maya Amangeldyeva launched her first social project. The outlets she has set up offer the most vulnerable people free of charge basic necessities, including clothes, pillows, blankets, household appliances and other essentials for life, as well as food.
By the way, Maya Amangeldyeva received an invitation from King Charles to Buckingham Palace in April this year for the evening dedicated to the coronation ceremony, which took place in the Royal Garden on May 3, 2023. The Turkmen woman was awarded such a high honor for her active charitable work.
Today, Maya aims to open a "free shop" and food bank on every main street in Britain - a place where struggling families or people in need can go and take good quality clothing, appliances, furniture or other amenities for free.
“Now I have enough clothes to dress the whole UK. I can supply them with beds, mattresses, knives, forks, carpets, curtains, furniture, refrigerators, washing machines… I have everything and it's free,” Maya tells the Mirror.
In the near future, she plans to open two more stores - in Margate and on the Isle of Sheppey. In addition, a Turkmen woman with her team of volunteers works around the clock to open new food banks and launch other social projects and help every person in need.
According to the publication, any person of any age can be nominated for the Pride of Britain award, and anyone who has such a hero in mind can do it. It can be a single act of incredible human courage, long and painstaking work against the odds, or some inspiring act of kindness by ordinary people or a company.
The organizers of the ceremony have compiled a list of categories to which the nominee can be attributed. However, it happens that some applicants may be applied for more than one category. And in this case, the Pride of Britain team determines the most suitable award for them.
Winners will be selected by a Pride of Britain jury from a list compiled by a research team that will review each public nomination received. Nomination applications can be submitted at this link.
And it remains for all of us to wish good luck to our compatriot and, as they say, keep our fingers crossed for her.
