A new project aimed at connecting the film industry of the CIS countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) with Europe and the rest of the world is being launched in the Kazakh city of Almaty.

The first edition of the Eurasian Film Market (EFM) will be held from September 11 to 14. The initiative is intended to become an annual international forum that promotes the expansion of regional cooperation and the establishment of new business ties between the film industry of the region and the world film community, reports kino-teatr.ru .

The Eurasian film market is intended to serve as a platform that not only unites professionals of the CIS film industry and creates optimal conditions for the film business in the region, but also builds strong bridges of cooperation between the CIS countries and the world film community.

"In the light of the socio-political events taking place in the world, we recognize the increasing importance of Central Asia as an important link between East and West. Currently, Central Asian countries produce films that receive invitations to prestigious film festivals, and sales agents include films from Central Asia in their international programs. This surge in demand for co-production projects is supported by a well-developed infrastructure for filming in the region. However, much remains to be done, improved and achieved," said Helene Haug, co—founder and Director of EFM.

Among the participants of the forum will be other organizers of international film festivals, producers and production companies, distribution companies, sales agents, cinema chains, streaming platforms, as well as foreign organizations promoting the film industry of their country, and representatives of foreign foundations and electoral to finance programs that can support the production and distribution of films in the region.

In addition, the Eurasian Film Market will host discussions on content distribution, film screening technologies, as well as options for co-production in the production and promotion of films. A separate event will be the presentation of the #SEARCH program, which will include new multi-genre paintings from Central Asian countries.

Applications for feature films and documentaries from 2022/2023 are open until August 31, after which international distributors, sales agents, streaming platforms or film festivals can choose the projects they want to collaborate with.

EFM is creating an industry directory of Central Asian companies working in the film industry. The catalog will be distributed to all participants of the Eurasian film Market and posted on a special online platform created in cooperation with Toqsan.com , and also on the website of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea.
