Turkmenistan celebrates World Day against Human Trafficking

The World Day against Human Trafficking was celebrated on Monday in Turkmenistan with an information and educational concert. The action was organized within the framework of the Program "Safe Migration in Central Asia", funded by USAID and with the support of UNODC, the Turkish Embassy, the NGO "Yenme" and national partners.

This year, the theme of the event is "We will cover every victim of human trafficking, we will not leave anyone aside." It was attended by representatives of state, international, and public organizations.

The program began with a video showing about this significant day and continued with musical compositions, songs and dances. An intellectual competition was also organized with the participation of the audience.

The World Day against Human Trafficking is celebrated annually on July 30. For the first time, the decision to declare this date an international day was made on December 18, 2013 and officially enshrined in a resolution of the UN General Assembly. Since that day, the world community has united and directed efforts to counteract such a phenomenon as human trafficking.

The initiative of USAID and UNODC is aimed at drawing the attention of the general public to the global problem of human trafficking and its consequences. The World Day against Trafficking in Human Beings is also intended to remind of the importance and necessity of coordinated and consistent actions in combating this phenomenon with the unwavering observance of fundamental human rights, both at the national and international levels.
