A breathtaking shot of Lionel Messi kissing the World Cup was recognized as the best sports photo of the year, Match TV reports.

The author of the photo is the Spaniard Jesus Alvarez Oriella. He was able to capture an unforgettable moment when the Argentine hugged his coveted prize after the final match of the World Cup.

Lionel Messi, together with the Argentine national team, became the 2022 World champion, which was held in Qatar in November-December of the previous year.

It was a special moment for the 36-year-old football player, as he had already reached the final of the world Championship in 2014, but then Argentina failed to win the tournament, losing to Germany with a score of 1-0.
