Turkmenistan is preparing for a Dialogue with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Turkmenistan's preparations for dialogue with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) were discussed during a working meeting held by the UN Development Program jointly with the Government of the country.
The meeting brought together members of the Turkmen delegation who will go to the above-mentioned event to discuss the country's implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The dialogue will take place on August 21-22, 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The discussions were also attended by the international expert of UNDP George Tugushi, who shared his recommendations on the preparation of the relevant national report.
It is expected that during the Dialogue Turkmenistan will also present the results achieved since the previous report, which covers the period from 2016 to 2019.
The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 21, 1965 and entered into force on January 4, 1969. Turkmenistan ratified this Convention on September 23, 1994.
The document obliges its participants to eliminate racial discrimination and promote mutual understanding between all races.
