The increase in the volume of cargo transportation between Central Asia and Europe, as well as the possibilities of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of maritime transport between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were discussed by experts of the two countries in Baku on Monday. The Turkmen delegation, which arrived in the Azerbaijani capital on a business visit, is headed by the head of the Department of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan Murad Muradov.

According to the Azerbaijani press, the parties held talks on the territory of the Baku International Commercial Sea Port. The visitors got acquainted with the technical capabilities of the modern harbor, current and planned infrastructure projects. The guests were provided with information about the volumes of cargo transported through the water "gates" of Azerbaijan, the leading ports of the world with which Azerbaijani transport workers cooperate, as well as logistics corporations interested in mutual partnership.

During the meeting, the Turkmen delegation was presented with the construction project of the second part of the Baku seaport, developed by the Dutch firm Royal HaskoningDHV. It is expected that the plan will be prepared by the middle of the year.

To date, the capacity of the Baku seaport is 15 million tons per year. The implementation of the Dutch project, according to experts, will increase the volume of cargo traffic passing through the port to 25 million tons. Financial resources have already been allocated for these purposes, the report says.
