Iraqi delegation to visit Turkmenistan to discuss possible gas deals

Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel said during a meeting with members of the parliamentary Committee on Electricity and Energy on Sunday that two delegations will visit Qatar and Turkmenistan to discuss possible gas import deals, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported, citing the press service of the Iraqi parliament.
The report says that the meeting was held to discuss the ministry's plans to provide electricity during the summer. The head of the committee stressed the need to continue working to provide citizens with energy, especially in connection with the increase in temperature in the summer months.
Fadel clarified that a meeting was held with the Ministry of Oil to achieve effective solutions to the electricity crisis and equip power plants with the necessary fuel.
The Iraqi official added that the two delegations will visit Turkmenistan and Qatar to discuss possible gas import deals from the two countries in order to have enough fuel to operate power plants.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani instructed the leadership of the Iraqi energy sector to find alternative solutions for gas imports and, in this context, to continue the efforts initiated for negotiations with Turkmenistan and Qatar.
