Turkmenistan will develop a new Strategy for the main directions of foreign policy


In order to further intensify the international activities of Turkmenistan, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov made a number of proposals at a government meeting on Friday regarding the implementation of the country's foreign policy and the activities of the Foreign Ministry.
In particular, they discussed the preparation of a conceptual summary on the priority positions of Turkmenistan at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the general debate at which will begin in September 2023. According to the minister, the document will outline the country's initiatives and approaches to the most important issues on the global agenda - ensuring peace, security and sustainable development, ecology and environmental protection, climate change, healthcare and the humanitarian sphere.
It was also proposed to develop a draft medium-term Strategy for the main directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, taking into account the emerging geopolitical situation around the region and based on the Concept of the country's foreign policy for 2022-2028.
As the minister noted, today one of the key tasks is to strengthen partnership at the regional and global levels in the field of security. In this context, a draft Plan is being prepared to enhance international cooperation between the relevant state institutions of Turkmenistan in the fight against terrorism for 2023-2025, which provides for the intensification of partnership dialogue with the UN, EU, OSCE, OIC, other associations and organizations, with neighboring countries and other states.
Another important proposal was made - to develop a Program for the development of international cooperation of Turkmenistan in the tourism industry covering 2024-2025. This program of action should stimulate the interest of the world tourism industry in unlocking the potential of our country, which has a unique historical, cultural and natural heritage, through more systematic and targeted interaction, promotion of joint tourism products.
In addition, the plans of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include the preparation of the Concept for the Development of the International Exhibition Activities of Turkmenistan for the next two years - 2024-2025. This concept will be aimed at solving the problems of supporting domestic producers and businesses, creating mechanisms for cooperation in this area.
