The EU has named the top 20 professions whose holders can easily get a work visa to Europe
A surprising number of 400 different professions were classified as scarce in at least one member State of the European Union or the Schengen area, and another 321 professions were listed as redundant in at least one of these countries.
The report of the European Labour Agency (EURES) on the shortage and surplus of labor, based on data for 2022, shed light on the professions that EU countries are struggling to fill with their own labor force, and on those professions for which there are too many professionals and not enough jobs.
"The fact that a large number of scarce and redundant professions have been identified does not mean that many professions are scarce in some countries and redundant in other countries," the report says, further explaining that such a conclusion would establish the possibility of successfully solving the problem of labor market imbalance in Europe between member states.
Since this is not the case, EU countries have to resort to attracting foreign workers as the fastest way to fill open vacancies that are crucial for the further development of their economy, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com .
The situation has prompted several countries, such as Germany, to develop employment strategies aimed at young people from certain countries, and has also made it easier to obtain a work visa.
Other EU countries have also adjusted their labor migration policies to make them more attractive to foreign workers, especially those they urgently need.
In a recent recommendation, even the EU Commission suggested encouraging targeted labour migration from non-EU countries in certain skill groups as one way to address the lack of workers in key sectors in all member States.
The EURES report published a list of some of the most sought-after professions in the EU, with some of them being scarce professions in 16 countries. Foreigners with experience or education in these professions have a much higher chance of obtaining a work visa to Europe compared to foreigners of other professions.
According to EURES, the following professions are among the top 20 most demanded in the EU: bricklayers and related workers, carpenters and joiners, heavy truck drivers, adjusters and operators of metalworking machines, nurses, plumbers and pipe installers, construction and related electricians, welders and gas workers, concrete pavers, concrete workers and related workers, sheet metal workers, floor stackers and tile makers, software developers, cooks, construction workers, electricians and installers, application programmers, general practitioners, bus and tram driver, auto mechanics and repairmen, specialist doctors.
Professions such as graphic and multimedia designers, administrative and executive bodies, journalists, interior designers and decorators, shop assistants, etc., will find it difficult to obtain a work visa for the EU, as they are redundant in most member states.
