Turkmenistan strengthens integration with UNESCO structures


The meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO was held on Saturday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was held under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov with the participation of members of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads and representatives of a number of departments, public organizations, Executive Secretary of the Commission Chinar Rustemova and Ambassador to France, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyyev, who joined the discussions remotely from Paris.
The meeting discussed the organization of an international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO, and the country's accession to the programs, networks and institutes of the UN educational, Scientific and Cultural institution. Events are planned to be held in 2024 in Ashgabat.
In particular, the accession of the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan to the UNESCO Global Youth Community is on the agenda. This inclusive platform aims to create a space that promotes cooperation between young people and learning between generations, as well as increases the visibility of the actions and work of young creators of change.
Turkmenistan also intends to join the Agreement on the International Institute of Central Asian Studies, which was established as part of a large-scale UNESCO Silk Road project. IICAS was opened in 1995 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Initially, the Agreement on the establishment of the institute was signed by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Mongolia joined IICAS in 2020.
The main goal of the IICAS is to attract the attention of the world community to solving the problems of historical and cultural development of Central Asia and strengthen the cooperation of local scientists and their colleagues abroad through multidisciplinary study of the region.
Turkmenistan also intends to intensify cooperation with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, which is located in Moscow, Russia. In this aspect, the issues of developing a roadmap for cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and IITE were considered.
