A new pilot solar energy system was installed in the polyclinic of the village of Pelvert in the Halach district of the Lebap region. The district institution of primary health care has become the first department in the country to be equipped with solar panels that supply electricity. The program was implemented within the framework of an innovative UNICEF project implemented jointly with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.

The continuous supply of clean electricity will ensure the round-the- clock operation of all necessary medical and non-medical equipment, and will also allow the polyclinic to provide uninterrupted services to patients and, very importantly, during natural disasters.

Solar energy technologies are today one of the modern and timely solutions that can put the health and social services sectors on the path of development with low carbon emissions and resistance to climate change. This is the comprehensive strategy for climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable health facilities developed by UNICEF in accordance with the Global Climate Agreements (COP) and the goals.

For Turkmenistan, where there is an abundance of sun and light, obtaining uninterrupted, stable, reliable and clean electricity through solar panels is one of the best and optimal solutions. Such an approach can be a good help for the Ministry of Health and the Medical Industry in improving the quality of medical services provided to the population. In addition, the project makes it possible to introduce innovative technologies into the healthcare system, as well as into the development of alternative energy sources and climate change resilience in accordance with Turkmenistan's National Climate Change Strategy.
