Queen wins one billion plays award
Iconic British rock band Queen has received the Brit Billion Award for the Billion Plays in the UK from BPI (British Phonografiç Indastri) -the UK representing organization that also hosts the Brit Award. The award was received by the band's musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor, Variety writes.
"Thank you for giving Queen the Brit Billion Award," 76-year-old Brian, said. “We are grateful to all our fans who support us and continue to enjoy our music. Rock on BPI”.
Queen rose to popularity in the mid-1970s and is a worldwide legend in the history of rock music. It was one of the first to appear at the Brit Awards in 1977, where the rock band shared the prize for Best British Single for Bohemian Rhapsody.
The team still has hundreds of millions of fans to this day. Following the death of lead singer Freddie Mercury, the band went on hiatus. At the moment, the group continues its activities with Adam Lambert on vocals.
The Brit Billion Award also went to ABBA, Coldplay, Mariah Carey and the late Whitney Houston.
