Cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNDP was the subject of a separate meeting in New York

The Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan met with UN Under- Secretary-General, Regional Director of the UN Development Program for Europe and the CIS Ivana Zhivkovic. The meeting took place on Tuesday, July 18, as part of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to the UN Headquarters to present the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the country at a high level and confirm the high degree of commitment of Turkmenistan to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The preparation of the second VNR was an important step in the implementation of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was attended by all key ministries and departments of our country, representatives of business, scientific organizations, civil society with the active support of all UN agencies in Turkmenistan.
85% of the SDG targets are integrated into the state and national programs of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan, which allows for regular work on the implementation of the SDGs in various sectors and areas of economic development, to coordinate the process and monitor the gradual achievement of the targeted goals and results.
As noted during the meeting, cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN is developing on the rise. Every year, the promising areas in which the UN agencies in Turkmenistan work, including the UN Development Program, in partnership with national state and non-state structures are expanding.
This year, UN agencies, together with the ministries and departments of our country, are starting to develop the next Framework Cooperation Program for the period 2026-2030.
As the minister emphasized, the economic policy of Turkmenistan at the new stage of socio-economic development is focused on large-scale reforms, the introduction of innovative and digital technologies, the development of industry, the network of transport and logistics centers and financial instruments, and the expansion of opportunities for creating new industries and industries.
Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of social sectors of the economy, among which health care is an area of priority partnership with various UN agencies, especially UNDP, digitalization, and the development of a "green economy".
Digital technologies and green initiatives can and should be combined to reinforce each other for sustainable development. In this context, Joraev will talk about a successful example of such coherence - the construction of the smart city Arkadag, which was opened in Turkmenistan at the end of June this year. This project implemented the concept of "smart city" and applied the approach to ensure zero harm to the environment at all stages - from the stage of production of building materials to the stage of operation of facilities.
It is safe to say that this city has become an example of the implementation of the provisions of the "New Urban Agenda", approved at the Habibat-3 conference.
Serdar Joraev invited Ivana Zhivkovich to visit the city of Arkadag, as well as to take part in the celebration of the independence of Turkmenistan on September 27, 2023.
Turkmenistan is ready for the most active, constructive and active participation in cooperation with UNDP on all topical issues on the global agenda, in particular in promoting effective areas of economic and social development in order to "leave no one behind," the minister said.
