President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov left Ashgabat on Tuesday for Saudi Arabia, where a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Central Asian States will be held tomorrow, July 19.

At the International Airport of the Turkmen capital, the head of state was escorted by members of the government.

The first-ever GCC-CA summit will be held in Jeddah and marks a new format of cooperation between two very important regions of the world in terms of geopolitics and geo-economics.

Cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the Arab States of the Gulf is of strategic importance in view of the difficult international situation and strengthening existing relations between the parties meets the long-term interests of both regions.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a regional organization comprising six Arab countries: Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

In September 2022, Riyadh hosted the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Central Asian States, at which a Joint Action Plan for 2023-2027 was adopted, aimed at establishing cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, health, culture and sports.

In August last year, Turkmenistan and the Gulf Cooperation Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Ashgabat aimed at intensifying relations, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, energy, water and food security sectors.
