The population of Turkmenistan is more than 7 million people, according to the census
The total population of Turkmenistan was 7,057,841 people as of December 17, 2022.
The most densely populated was the southernmost, Mary region - 22.9%. In second place is the northern region, Dashoguz region - 22%. The eastern region, Lebap accounts for 20.5% of the country's population. In the capital, the city of Ashgabat - 14.6%, in Ahal - 12.5% and in the west of the country, in the Balkans - 7.5%.
In the gender composition, the ratio is almost equal, with a slight preponderance of women - more than 50%. 47.1% are urban residents, 52.9% are villagers.
Such figures were announced by the chairman of the State Statistics Committee Dovletgeldi Amanmuhammedov, summarizing the results of the continuous population and housing census conducted in December 2022.
According to the census, the number of residential buildings (multi-apartment) is 1 million 5 thousand 671, which exceeds the level of 2012 (the previous census) by 12.4%, the number of residential buildings was 1 million 344 thousand 268, which is 13.6% more, and their total area increased by 24.5%.
Methodological guidelines for the preparation and conduct of the census with the connection of digital technologies were developed in accordance with international standards and were highly appreciated by experts of the United Nations Population Fund.
