Turkmenistan and UNICEF cooperate in the field of capacity-building in emergency preparedness


The representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund organized a series of capacity-building activities in Turkmenistan in the field of emergency preparedness.
The events were organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education and the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan within the framework of the regional program "Strengthening local and national capacities for emergency preparedness and response in Central Asian countries with a high risk of earthquakes and natural disasters".
Thus, during its implementation, about 1,000 schoolchildren, 400 principals and teachers from 10 target schools, as well as over 300 employees and volunteers of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan received appropriate training. The geography of the participants covered the city of Ashgabat, the regions of Ahal, Lebap and Dashoguz.
The participants raised awareness in the field of climate change, disaster risk reduction, as well as the provision of pre-medical care.
The program "Strengthening local and National Capacities for Emergency Preparedness and Response in Central Asian Countries with a high risk of earthquakes and natural disasters" is funded by USAID. It is being implemented in five Central Asian countries through risk reduction activities at the school and community levels at the national level.
