Voting in the presidential election was held in Uzbekistan


Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the current President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a presidential candidate from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – the Liberal Democratic Party, voted in early presidential elections on July 9.

The Central Election Commission has registered candidates from 4 political parties. The elections are being monitored by 749 observers from 47 states and 15 reputable international organizations, according to the website of the head of the republic.
As of 17:00, the turnout was 69.85%, 13.4 million voters voted, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported on Sunday.
In the afternoon, the CEC of Uzbekistan held meetings with observers from international organizations and foreign states, including Chairman of the CEC of Turkmenistan Gulmurad Muradov.

Also on the eve of the elections, Uzbek media reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law removing a number of restrictions on the use of the flag of Uzbekistan. It can now be used at home and at work, applied to clothes as a decoration, used at family and other events.
Previously, the flag of Uzbekistan was allowed to be used only on the buildings of state bodies and diplomatic missions, in the offices of the president of the country and other leaders, in military formations, at border checkpoints, at sports arenas and during holidays and celebrations, as well as on central streets on holidays.
