Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, congratulated the winners of the UAE qualifying tournament held within the framework of the 7th Arabic Reading Contest.

On his Twitter account , the sheikh wrote: "Today, the UAE celebrates 514,000 students from schools across the country who took part in the Arabic reading contest, which brought together 24.8 million students from around the world. We are very proud of the participants of this year, we hope for a new generation who loves to read, and we assure that our future will be in the hands of a generation passionate about learning and knowledge."

"My sincere congratulations to Amna Mohammad Al Mansouri and her parents on winning 1st place in the UAE competition after reading 128 books during the academic year. Two years ago, Amna lost the ability to walk, but that didn't stop her. She broke through and crossed the boundless ocean of knowledge and literature. The challenge was the beginning of a life-changing experience.

Today Amna can walk again, she won a reading contest and wrote two stories. In a few days, she will represent the UAE at the International Physics Olympiad in Tokyo. Amna's task was to rebuild herself and regain control of her life. This is what we want for all the youth of the UAE," he added.

"We also congratulate Gharib Al-Yamahi, who won the Country Challenge title in the Determined People category. Gharib is blind, but he is familiar with great achievements. He has read 130 books written in Braille, writes articles, speaks well and studies well. When a blind person reads 130 books, people with healthy eyesight should review what they have read again.

We wish Garib great success. His determination and willpower are living proof that nothing is impossible in the UAE," Sheikh Mohammed concluded.

Launched in its first issue in the 2015/2016 academic year as the largest Arab initiative of its kind, the Arab Reading Challenge program reflects the vision of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his belief that "Reading is the first step towards a better future based on knowledge and learning." The competition aims to emphasize the importance of reading, develop understanding and self- expression using the correct Arabic language, as well as develop creative thinking skills to help enrich the content of the Arabic language and strengthen the status of Arabic as a language of thought, science, research and creativity that can play a role in cultural dialogue and openness.

The 7th Arab Reading Challenge had a record number of participants: more than 24.8 million students from 46 countries.

The competition consists of several rounds of qualification, starting at the class level and ending at the country level, after which the winners advance to the final round. The selection of winners is based on strict and uniform criteria, including an assessment of all relevant aspects.
