A series of national seminars for trainers on travel document security, organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, concluded on Friday in the seaside town of Turkmenbashi. The experts completed basic and advanced training programs and received a set of materials for further training of field staff.

The training was held in two stages: the first part - in the city of Turkmenabad, the second - in Turkmenbashi. The training course was conducted by national experts representing the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan. 26 employees of the State Border and State Migration Services of Turkmenistan took part in the training campaign.

The listeners got acquainted with the document verification system, international standards, recommendations on technical equipment and document control systems. The trainers presented the classification of forged documents and elaborated on the means of detecting them at the border control.

During the practical classes, the participants learned to identify the main materials used for the production of documents, and got acquainted with the simulated elements of their technological protection. They also discussed the methods and characteristics of personalization, discussed the methodology for checking electronic documents and ways to falsify them.

Addressing future trainers, William Leaf, Political Adviser at the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, said that the joint OSCE-BOMCA training program on travel document security would strengthen the operational and analytical capacity of national document control experts to detect fraudulent travel documents and prevent illegal crossing the border.

The training project was organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat together with the EU Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA) in Turkmenistan (Phase 10).
