Ashgabat shows interest in efforts to preserve the oceans — the country's permanent mission to UNESCO


The Director of the Caspian Sea Institute of Turkmenistan, Myrat Atajanov, took part in the XXXII session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, which is an autonomous subdivision of UNESCO, the Turkmen Embassy in France reports.
Together with the head of the Institute, the diplomatic corps of Turkmenistan headed by Ambassador Maksat Charyev took part in the event on the election and appointment of candidates for key positions in the organization.
During the meetings, which lasted from June 21 to June 30, reports on the implementation of the Commission's program were heard, as well as a productive exchange of views on the current state of research in the field of oceanography was carried out.
In this context, the Turkmen side expressed interest in these studies and efforts to preserve the oceans and the entire marine ecosystem, including the Caspian Sea. The uniqueness of the seaside ecosystem and the diversity of inhabited species were particularly noted here.
The official position of Turkmenistan was announced, according to which the country will continue to improve its scientific and technical capabilities through participation in the Executive Council of the Commission for the sustainable development of marine resources.
