The Head of Turkmenistan and the Vice-President of the UCI discussed cooperation in the field of cycling


Sports and inter-parliamentary diplomacy was in the focus of attention at the meeting of the Head of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov with the Vice- President of the International Cycling Union (UCI), President of the Asian Cycling Confederation Osam Al Shafar, who is also co-chair of the parliamentary friendship group between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the UAE Federal National Council.
During the meeting, the prospects of cooperation in the field of cycling and the development of cycling in the country as an important component of the formation of a physical culture and wellness lifestyle in society were discussed.
Recalling that in 2018, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, a UN resolution on the proclamation of June 3 as World Bicycle Day was adopted, the head of state highly appreciated the level of interaction of the Olympic Committee and sports federations of Turkmenistan with the International Olympic Committee and other sports structures.
The V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games successfully held in Ashgabat in 2017 were also noted.
Today Turkmenistan has a developed infrastructure for holding major international competitions in various disciplines of cycling. A special place in this infrastructure is occupied by an indoor cycling track in the Ashgabat Olympic Town, which meets all world requirements for facilities of this profile and level.
The Vice-President of the UCI stated Turkmenistan's experience in successfully organizing major international competitions and expressed confidence that in the future world tournaments in the country will be held at the highest level.
