Uzbekistan to restrict advertising of unhealthy foods for children


A nationwide movement "Proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle" is being launched in Uzbekistan. According to the UzA agency, this step was taken in accordance with the decree of President Mirziyoyev "On the State program for the implementation of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022- 2026 in the "Year of Human Care and Quality Education".
At the same time, it is planned to train the population to control their health and nutrition using smartphones and mobile applications, and to create a mobile application for proper nutrition. The requirements and restrictions on the advertising of unhealthy foods and beverages intended for children, baby food and energy products, medicines, biologically active substances will be strengthened.
The state program also provides for the approval of a list of products for educational institutions and a reduction in the consumption of food products that are not recommended for children and young people, containing large amounts of sugar, salt, trans fats, flavors and dyes.
The aforementioned decree, published on the website of the President of Uzbekistan on February 28 of this year, in particular, prescribes, starting from the 2023/2024 academic year, to provide primary school students with free meals in all regions of the republic and in the city of Tashkent. At the same time, ensure the supply of food normalized by age and health status of students, as well as corresponding to sanitary requirements.
