Free sign language translation services launched in Turkmenistan

Free sign language interpretation services have been launched in five regions of Turkmenistan.
Seven sign language interpreters, trained by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), provide services to people with hearing impairments to facilitate their communication with representatives of various government agencies.
Specialists work in local branches of the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat, Balkanabat, Bayramali, Dashoguz, Mary and Turkmenabad five days a week for interpretation in the office and outside. Sign language interpreters have also set appointment times to provide free consultations for those wishing to start learning sign language.
In 2022, the USAID Turkmenistan Government Improvement Program (GSP) organized a one-month professional development course for sign language interpreters.
Additional information on the exact location of sign language interpreters and contact numbers can be obtained on the website of the Society of the Blind and Deaf Turkmenistan.
