Negotiations with the head of the UN project unit were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan


Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks on Monday with Freya Von Groote, Director of the Austrian Multi-country UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The sides highly appreciated the state and prospects of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the UN on a wide range of issues on the common agenda. Within the framework of its mandate, UNOPS is working together with the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN system to improve the effectiveness of mechanisms in the field of servicing international projects.

Rashid Meredov noted the role of UNOPS in assisting the Government of Turkmenistan to accelerate the implementation of programs and projects within the framework of national development goals. Priority areas of cooperation have been identified projects in the field of healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, "green" and digital transition, environmental protection and climate change, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
UNOPS is the UN operational unit implementing projects for the UN system. As a member of the UN family, UNOPS has a mandate, expertise and experience in providing project management, infrastructure and procurement support services to governments, UN agencies and other development partners.
The UNOPS representative office in Ashgabat opened in June 2021.
