Guterres Appoints Head of UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia


UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced on June 14 the appointment of Kakha Imnadze from Georgia as his special representative and head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), headquartered in Ashgabat.
Imnadze replaced Natalia Gherman from the Republic of Moldova, who was appointed Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate and whom the Secretary General is grateful for her dedication and leadership of UNRCCA, the UN News Center said.
It is also explained that Kakha Imnadze has more than 30 years of experience in diplomacy, public service and business. Entering his country's diplomatic service in 1989, over the years he has gained extensive experience in diplomacy, negotiation and mediation, and political risk assessment.
By this time, he was the Georgian Ambassador to Canada and Permanent Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization. He previously served as Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN from 2013 to 2022. He also spent 10 years in the private sector working on political risk assessment and investment.
Imnadze is a graduate of Tbilisi State University. Speaks Georgian, English and Russian.
