Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan stipulated junction point of state borders
Today, in Samarkand on the sidelines of the major international forum "Central Asia: Shared past and common future, cooperation for sustainable development and mutual prosperity", the Treaty on the Junction Point of the state borders of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was signed. Deputy prime minister, foreign minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, foreign minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov, and foreign minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov put their signatures under the historical document. “The signing of the Treaty on the area of the junction point will allow to complete one of the stages of international legal finalization of the state borders between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and will create a solid basis for strengthening mutual respect, sovereign equality and territorial integrity of the three bordering countries”, says the press release of MFA Kazakhstan. There are several bilateral instruments in the legal framework basis of the three countries, which served as corresponding milestone in the solution of border issues. Among them - Treaty on delimitation and demarcation of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan border of 5 July 2001, the Agreement between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan on the demarcation of the state border of 18 April 2017, the Treaty between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the state border of 16 November 2001, the Treaty on certain sections of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border of 9 September 2002. The Turkmen-Uzbek intergovernmental commission continues the active negotiation process on delimitation and demarcation of common borders. The length of the Turkmen-Uzbek border is 1,621 kilometers, and the Turkmen-Kazakh border is 379 kilometers.
