A native of Turkmenistan, who is studying in Japan, Suray Seidova became the winner of the international "Poetry Marathon" organized by the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN). It consisted in making a video with the reading of a poem by Russian classical poets, the press service of the university reports.

In total, in the marathon, which lasted two weeks, almost four hundred videos were evaluated, gaining more than 1.5 thousand reactions and more than 50 thousand views. Residents of 54 countries and 31 cities of Russia joined the marathon.

A student of a Japanese university from Turkmenistan became the best in the nomination "Verse from afar" after reading the work of one of the most brilliant Soviet and Russian lyricists — Bella Akhmadulina. Her poem "That month of May", thanks to the skillful artistic recitation of our compatriot, allowed Suray to become the most memorable in his nomination.

The competition of readers of Russian classics featured poetic lines by 40 poets, including Sergei Yesenin, Anna Akhmatova, Alexander Pushkin, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Eduard Asadov and many other representatives of the lyrical pleiad.

The main goal of the marathon is to realize the interconnectedness of all the peoples of the world with the help of poetry, which, according to the plan, should become a link between nations in understanding each other's cultural codes. This is exactly the moment when culture was able to unite participants from different continents in a single rush.

The concept of the "Verse Marathon" was linked to the Day of Slavic Writing and the Day of the Russian Language.
