Fans of good music and high-quality cinema will enjoy a real present from the creators of American musicals. On February 2, screenings of films awarded the Academy Award by the American Film Academy and also awarded the Grammy Music Award will start in the cities of Turkmenistan. The film "La La Land" by Damien Chazella. The comedy-dramatic plot was conceived by the director back in his student years and was embodied on the movie screen in 2016. At the 89th Academy Awards, the picture was presented in 14 nominations, six of which brought the coveted statuette to the nominees. And Damien Chazell became the youngest winner of an Oscar in the Best Director category. “La La Land” is an atmospheric movie that immerses the viewer in the rhythm of the streets of old Los Angeles, where the main characters meet - Mia, a novice actress, and Sebastian, a jazz pianist. Young people came to the "city of angels" for success and fame. In his film, the director poetizes the city, bringing to the central plan the romantic story of desperate daredevils who risked everything that they had for the sake of making their dreams come true. Another film prepared for showing on the big screen for the Turkmen people will be a fantasy melodrama about the adventures of Aladdin, shot by Guy Ritchie. Adapting the 1992 cartoon of the same name into a musical film version, the creators of the tape enriched the picture with computer graphics and special effects. The filmmakers did not stint on luxurious costumes for oriental characters. The films offered to the audience are designed for the interests of different age groups. The cartoon "Rapunzel: A Tangled Story" byron Howard and Nathan Grenaud, focused on children's audiences, and the adventure fantasy "Aladdin" will appeal to adolescents. The film "La La Land", of course, will win the hearts of the older generation. “Twice a year, the US Embassy in Turkmenistan organizes screenings of the best American cinema,” said Nargiza Metyakubova, cultural program coordinator for the US Embassy. - Now we have begun to devote film screenings to certain topics. For example, this year, we marked the year of American music, which was timed to coincide with the winter screenings of musical films. For the summer, it is planned to select films about famous musicians. The history of the musical originates in the 20s of the XX century in the United States of America. The stage genre combines several components - from music and dance, to vocal and acting roles. Musicals migrated from theaters to the cinema, taking their niche in the film market. “The films we have chosen are not accidental, they emphasize American values, in particular multiculturalism,” Nargiz Metyakubova explains. - So the eastern fairy tale about Aladdin, which takes place in the Middle East, was shot by Disney Studios, which shows Americans respect for the culture of different countries. Cash pictures of American cinema in Turkmenistan will be available for free. Films will be shown in Russian with English subtitles.
