OSCE and Turkmenistan discussed joint work on integration of ethnic communities

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, the press service of the country's Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the state and prospects of joint work within the framework of the OSCE human dimension, including the mandate of the High Commissioner for National Minorities, were discussed.
Meredov stressed that in recent years Turkmenistan's cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner has reached a new level and has acquired a systematic and consistent character.
The sphere of education has been singled out as a priority area of cooperation. In particular, an important step was the signing in April 2021 of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Office of the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities on cooperation on linguistic and cultural diversity in Turkmenistan.
In order to implement the Memorandum, it is proposed to continue active cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner within the framework of the Educational Program in Central Asia, the fourth phase of which ends in December this year. The project is aimed at helping to achieve significant progress in the deep integration of various ethnic communities in Central Asia through improving the educational level.
The parties agreed to develop a Roadmap for the implementation of this Memorandum for 2023-2025.
Another promising area of cooperation is cooperation within the framework of the National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, adopted in 2021.
The sides also exchanged views on the agenda of the upcoming June 15 round table in Ashgabat on "OSCE Best Practices in the field of effective participation of National minorities in consultative mechanisms."
