Five Central Asian countries and Latvia signed a joint communique on cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. The ceremony took place in Riga on June 12, after the co-chairs of all five working groups on transport between Latvia and the States of the Central Asian region held bilateral and multilateral talks on Monday, discussing issues of cooperation and its prospects and reaching a number of agreements.

As a result of these meetings, a joint communique was agreed upon, which was signed by representatives of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Latvia, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan.

The official announcement highlights the important role of transport and logistics in ensuring international trade and connectivity between Europe and Asia as a basis for promoting sustainable trade, economic growth and prosperity.

The parties agreed to take into account various current and emerging issues to maintain and develop intermodal and multimodal cross-border and transit transport services between Central Asia and the European Union, as well as to strengthen and expand supply chain opportunities for Central Asian countries to the EU through the Baltic Sea multimodal corridor.

The communique also talks about the possibilities of Latvian logistics services in ensuring the connectivity of Central Asia with the European Union, Great Britain, North America, Latin America and Africa, using road, rail, port, aviation, postal and e-commerce services, including opportunities for the distribution of goods from Central Asia to Northern and Western Europe through the Latvian transport and logistics infrastructure.

The six countries agreed to strengthen cooperation using bilateral and multilateral platforms aimed at developing and improving integrated transport routes and connectivity between Europe and Asia, thereby facilitating trade in goods and services in Latvia and Central Asia, paying special attention to agriculture, natural resources and general cargo transportation, as well as to maintain and expand contacts between people.

The communique also says that the parties agreed to expand trade, investment and business cooperation, contributing to the development of transport and logistics services, the creation of warehouses, production and industrial facilities in Latvia and Central Asia in order to strengthen trade ties between Europe and Central Asia and Asia in a broader context.
