Representative of Trinidad and Tobago elected Chairman of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly
Dennis Francis, a representative of Trinidad and Tobago, was elected Chairman of the next 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
The corresponding statement was made by the Chairman of the current session, Hungarian diplomat Csaba Keresi.
"I declare Denis Francis elected by acclamation as Chairman of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly," Koroshi said.
He noted that his successor has a wealth of knowledge and experience.
In turn, speaking from the rostrum of the General Assembly, Francis promised to fulfill his duties with commitment, remembering that all delegations have equal rights. He expressed hope that he would be able to bring a new atmosphere of unity and cooperation to the work of the UN General Assembly.
The diplomat also announced his intention to improve existing approaches and look for new ones in order to strengthen the foundations of peace, prosperity, progress and sustainable development.
Dennis Francis has 40 years of experience in the diplomatic service. In particular, he worked in the UN Human Rights Council, as well as in the UN structures in Vienna and Rome.
The Chairman of the UN General Assembly opens and closes each plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, fully directs the work of the General Assembly and maintains order at its meetings. He is elected for one year from among the UN member states, with the exception of permanent members of the UN Security Council.
