In the United Arab Emirates, with the help of genetic engineering, a breed of bees has been bred that can withstand serious climatic stress, including temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius. The UAE authorities thus want to increase the share of local honey production.

Currently, the Arab Emirates import more than 95% of bee hives. The Hatta Honey apiary is home to bees from Canada, Italy, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Back in the days of the pandemic, residents of the UAE began to take care of bee hives in order to support beekeepers and provide themselves with locally produced products. Each hive brings its "foster parents" about 10 kg of honey a year, writes russianemirates.com .

The authorities hope to reduce the import of hives with the help of a new breed of heat-resistant bees.

Earlier, an article appeared in the journal Science that there is a sharp decline in the number of bees around the world. One of the reasons for this, experts called the increase in temperature on Earth.
