A robot engaged in uncoupling wagons is being tested in Russian Railways

OJSC "Russian Railways" has a robot manipulator, whose duties include uncoupling cars. This automatic device is already being tested at the station in Chelyabinsk, independently moving along the sorting slide, uncouples the wagons with the help of a manipulator arm. For a better orientation of the device, its creators have provided a vision system with several cameras.
Along with unmanned control of shunting locomotives, automated reception and diagnostics of rolling stock on the approaches to the station and other autonomous systems, the robot manipulator will become one of the elements of a digital railway station.
The robot was created at the Scientific Research and Design Institute of Informatization, Automation and Communication in Railway Transport. SRIAC is the leading institute of the Russian Railways Holding in the field of intelligent control systems and train safety, as well as diagnostics of railway infrastructure facilities.
