President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a telegram of condolences to President of the Republic of India Draupadi Murm and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in connection with the tragic railway accident that occurred in the state of Odishat and caused numerous deaths and injuries.

On behalf of the people and the government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, the head of state conveyed words of deep sympathy and support at this difficult moment to the families and friends of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.

According to Indian railway authorities, several carriages of a passenger train traveling from Kolkata to Chennai derailed due to a collision with a freight train and fell onto the opposite track. After some time, another passenger train crashed into them, as a result, several more cars with people derailed.

According to the latest data, as a result of the incident, 238 people were killed and more than 900 were injured.
