Turkmenistan took part in a meeting in Paris on the preservation of cultural values

The seventh Meeting of the States Parties to the 1970 Convention on
Measures aimed at Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export
and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property was held at UNESCO
headquarters in Paris on May 30. Turkmenistan was represented at the
forum by Maksat Charyev, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of
Turkmenistan to UNESCO, according to the website of the Ministry of

The seventh Meeting of the States Parties to the 1970 Convention on Measures aimed at Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on May 30. Turkmenistan was represented at the forum by Maksat Charyev, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The 1970 Convention is an international treaty aimed at protecting cultural heritage from illegal trade and trafficking. It establishes guidelines and rules to prevent theft and trafficking of cultural artifacts.

At the opening of the session, UNESCO Deputy Director General for Culture Ernesto Ottone Ramirez welcomed and congratulated the new members of the Convention - Turkmenistan and the Republic of Malawi. Turkmenistan joined this UNESCO Convention on September 1, 2022.

Maksat Charyev noted in his speech that Turkmenistan has a rich historical and cultural heritage, which not only reflects the unique history and identity of the country, but is also an integral part of the world cultural heritage.

The diplomat stressed that within the framework of the Convention, Turkmenistan strives not only to protect these values, but also to promote their dissemination. The country, as a full member of the Convention, undertakes to actively cooperate with other member states, regularly exchange knowledge and experience in the field of cultural heritage preservation, the Ambassador said.

The participants of the Paris Meeting also held elections to the Subsidiary Committee of the Meeting of States Parties.
