A comprehensive transport document between Iran and Turkmenistan is being prepared

Turkmenistan and Iran have common interests in matters of transport interaction, and given that 600 wagons pass through the Serakhs and Inchebarun border crossings every day, with the available capacity of these, a further increase in traffic should be expected. This was discussed at the meeting of Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiev with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehrdad Bazrpash. The meeting was held on Tuesday, May 30, as part of a working visit to Tehran by the head of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The Iranian minister noted the intensification of work on the Ashgabat agreement and proposed to consider its practical and operational phase at a meeting of the joint economic commission to be held soon in Turkmenistan, as well as invite delegates from member countries to the discussions, the Iranian press writes today.
Bazrpash added that the document on comprehensive cooperation and transportation between the two countries, finalized after the meeting, will be sent within the next two weeks to receive comments and proposals from Turkmenistan so that it can be agreed upon at the upcoming meeting of the joint economic commission.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to welcome Turkmen investors in the ports of the north and south of Iran, Bazrpash added.
The meeting also stressed the need to strengthen aviation cooperation between the two countries. Interest in launching border markets was noted.
Chakiev also added that the upcoming meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian economic commission of the two countries is planned to discuss issues of increasing the capacity of railways, increasing transit traffic by aircraft, through ports and by road.
