The mutual trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan increased by more than 5 times in 2022 in relation to 2021, and since the beginning of this year - almost 2 times as compared to the same period of the last year. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Atdaev, speaking at a gala reception on the occasion of Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He noted the important role in this of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the 6th meeting of which was held at the end of November last year in Baku, and expressed the hope that the agreements reached then would contribute to the intensification of fruitful ties between our countries, an ORIENT correspondent reports from the scene.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have natural resource potential, including huge hydrocarbon reserves, which creates ample opportunities for effective cooperation in strategically important areas, Atdaev said.

— Our countries are located in a strategically important geographical area at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. This opens the way to close cooperation in the transit transportation system and the creation of large-scale international transport corridors, the Deputy Prime Minister said. - At present, the role of the Caspian region as a major transport hub of international importance is being strengthened. In this regard, the future of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation is very great.
