The Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development announced the admission of three new member countries: Burkina Faso, the Syrian Arab Republic and Uganda. “This will strengthen the Group's aspirations to establish global peace, security and achieve sustainable development goals based on the wider application of the principles of neutrality,” the message on the page of the Turkmen representation to the UN says.

The Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development is an informal international platform aimed at promoting the principles of neutrality in achieving global peace and security. Recognizing the importance of neutrality, the Group seeks to promote the establishment of interstate dialogue, strengthen trust, promote cooperation and mutual understanding between peoples.

The new members will bring their valuable knowledge and experience to the work of the Group and help harness the transformative potential of the policy of neutrality to build a secure and sustainable future for all.

Turkmenistan initiated the creation of this Group of Friends to promote regular dialogue at the international level, in particular within the UN, on the practical use of the peacekeeping and peacebuilding potential of countries that apply the principles of neutrality in their policies. Today, 25 countries have joined this Group.
