A seminar for investigators in the field of cross-border crimes was held in Ashgabat


A seminar for investigators on cross-border crimes was held in Ashgabat from 22 to 24 May. The training was organized by the Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), becoming the fifth seminar of its kind held by BOMCA 10 in Central Asia - similar events were previously held in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The participants got acquainted with the approach of the European Union and new methods of investigating cross-border organized crime, such as human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
During this seminar, criminal intelligence officers and investigators of the national security, internal affairs, Prosecutor's Office, migration and border services improved their knowledge in the field of cross-border crimes.

The UN and EU legal instruments on combating human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, new methods of investigation of organized cross-border crimes, methods of profiling and identification of victims of human trafficking were also considered.
Experts from the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania and the UNODC Regional Office in Central Asia presented case studies and initiated discussions related to various aspects of the investigation.
It is expected that, based on the results of the discussions, a Guide for training instructors in the field of combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking will be developed, according to a press release from BOMCA 10.
BOMCA is funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium of EU partners and the International Center for Migration Policy Development. The main goal of the program is to increase security and stability in the region by promoting sustainable economic development through integrated border management.
