The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan and UNICEF continue to strengthen the justice system in the interests of children

The establishment of friendly approaches and positive practices during investigations involving children to protect them from unnecessary injuries that may occur during repeated interviews or interrogations in the justice process was the main topic of a round table organized by UNICEF on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies, ministries of the social sector, as well as interested employees of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Supreme Court, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and other national and international experts.
The participants discussed examples of positive practices accumulated in Turkmenistan in this area, recommendations for strengthening legislation in the field of criminal law, as well as the advantages of using a child-friendly approach in the justice system and the need to build the capacity of investigators.
It was noted that the Turkmen Government is taking steps to further strengthen measures to protect child victims and witnesses of crimes. We are talking about the introduction of modern investigative methods, including the use of technology to record interrogations in a friendly environment.
The Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Turkmenistan, Alexandru Nartea, in his speech noted that international standards require the adoption of special measures to protect children who have come into contact with the law. This can be achieved by protecting the privacy of children, providing support services and ensuring the safety of the child during the investigation process.
UNICEF in Turkmenistan will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partners on the development and implementation of procedures in the interests of children, the expert stressed.
The initiative is being implemented with the support of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
