Baby boom in Ashgabat Zoo: 9 Kopetdag sheep lambs were born
Newborn lambs have replenished the number of "guests" of the capital's zoo. This spring, 9 lambs of the Turkmen mountain sheep, which is also called the Kopetdag sheep, were born.
Currently, 13 individuals of these animals “live” in the zoo - 12 females and a male. Their breeding season is from April to early May, and often twins appear in the offspring. And this time was no exception - out of 9 born lambs, four were twins.
The mountain goat lives in the Central Asian region - it can be found on the territory of Turkmenistan - they live on the peaks of the Kopetdag, the Balkan Mountains, Koytendag, in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, as well as the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea.
The Kopetdag ram belongs to the order of artiodactyls and is famous for its large horns. In old individuals, they sometimes reach impressive sizes - 150 cm in length, 55 cm in girth and weigh almost 22 kg. The mountain sheep lives on average 16 years, reports the publication turkmenistaninfo.gov.tm.
