Xinhua: China-Central Asia Summit – a new era of cooperation

Xi'an is waiting for the China-Central Asia summit. There are only a few days left before the start. Xinhua News Agency talks about the upcoming high-level forum with the participation of China and five Central Asian countries.
The summit will be held on May 18-19 in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province in northwest China, where the heads of state of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will gather. The choice of the meeting place is not accidental: Xi'an is a historical city that was founded about 3,100 years ago and it was these ancient lands that marked the beginning of the Great Silk Road, along the route of which interaction between China and Central Asia flourished for centuries.
Today, the confident and inclusive culture of the city has again attracted universal interest and has become a rich platform where international film festivals and exhibitions with the same name "Silk Road" are held. Now the upcoming China-Central Asia Summit will join this prestigious list.
The summit is the first major diplomatic event that China is holding this year. This event is a historic milestone in the development of relations between China and the countries of Central Asia. The participants expect that the summit will further strengthen the strategic mutual trust between China and the Central Asian states.
It is expected that at the meeting the heads of state will consider a variety of topics affecting the development of Chinese-Central Asian relations and exchange views on the creation of fruitful mechanisms of cooperation in the international and regional planes. The presidents will also sign important political documents.
The landmark meeting will also give a new impetus to high-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road, since it was the Central Asian countries that were among the first to support this initiative. With the joint efforts of all parties, the summit will allow to develop a new plan for China-Central Asian relations and open a new era of cooperation, Xinhua said.
