The head of the Board of the National Energy Holding of Kyrgyzstan Talaibek Baigaziev said that the republic is ready to increase the import of electricity from Turkmenistan and Russia in case of an increase in consumption, the CIS Energy Council reports.

"This year we plan to cover the deficit of 2.5 billion kWh of electricity through imports. We will cover the remaining 14.5 billion with our own production at the expense of hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants. We will supply electricity from Turkmenistan and Russia for the first time. If there is an increase in consumption, we will agree on an increase in imports," Baigaziev said.

It was noted that last year the republic could not fully cover its electricity needs. This year it is planned to import from Russia and Kazakhstan. Turkmenistan remains the leader in electricity supplies to Kyrgyzstan.

According to the agreements reached, Kyrgyzstan imports about 1.6 billion kWh of Turkmen electricity, which is about 65% of all imports.
